Welcome, welcome, welcome to Wynyard Estate Saffron. It is great to see you all. You have arrived to the place to learn about a very special plant, Saffron. Therefore, greetings, greetings, greetings to you all.
My name is Graham and with my partner Wendy (plus our four dogs - Stella, Milo, Jazz and Baz) we have been growing Saffron in Central Otago since 2012. I hold a Ph. D in Botany (University of Otago) and then trained at the highest ranked Agricultural University in the world - University of California Davis. Wendy is a chef by trade from the RNZAF way back and produces all the amazing Saffron recipes and ready to go spreads in our Saffron Studio that you can buy and try.
We love our home here in the Teviot Valley, Central Otago, and we are thrilled to be able to share our Saffron journey with you. What better way to learn about this exotic spice Saffron, but coming to us and learning about how we grow, process, and produce our products. We are a Premium Grade 1 Saffron producer, grading each harvest season since 2015. We also hold our National Programme 3 through Ministry of Primary Industries , as we are serious about the quality of our Saffron, food safety , and the beautiful products we make for you.
We expanded into two hectares of Saffron at the end of 2019, and we are very fortunate to be producing in the kilos since 2016. Wendy and I are very proud to have our Saffron tested in New Zealand after each harvest season, and our Hawk Eye capsules are manufactured for us in New Zealand and then sent straight back to us. Our Premium Grade 1 Saffron is mainly used for our Hawk Eye, however we do stock some of our Saffron threads in the Saffron studio also to purchase.
Not only do we hold our free Saffron and Garden Tours all year round, there is also the Saffron Studio to come and visit. There are set times for the Saffron Studio, but Wendy is always happy to accommodate you if you cannot make those times and days. Just email or call and arrange a time to suit. Always happy to talk Saffron! Head to our Tour page to learn more.
Remember to follow us on our Facebook and Instagram page @Wynyardestatesaffron and keep up to date with our Saffron Journey (and of course our dogs too)
